Benefits of Physiotherapy Treatment
Physiotherapy treatment helps your recovery in three major ways:
Attending Physiotherapy immediately:
- will enable your injury to be
stabilised and supported correctly
- have the pain reduced or
relieved
- have the inflammation limited and reduced
This will be achieved by correct support and positioning‚ Rest - Ice - Compression - Elevation‚ and valuable advice on how to function and give your injury the best chance of recovering quickly
General Physiotherapy Treatment:
- will maintain and improve the movement which is available after injury
- strengthen the appropriate muscles
- assist balance and
co-ordination and function
- Continue with the reduction of pain‚ inflammation and instability
- Joints which are hypermobile [too loose] will be stabilised
- joints which are hypomobile [too stiff] will be loosened
- Nerve root or referred signs and symptoms can be treated with physiotherapy
Final Rehabilitation:
- You will be given guidance for your return to school‚ sport or work.
- You will be shown correct methods for carrying and lifting
- You will be given advice on how to avoid re-injury
- You will be shown good postural techniques
- We will provide sports training programmes‚ with the correct fitness and stretching methods
Fractures‚ following removal of Plaster of Paris, will rehabilitate to the fullest possible function more quickly with early physiotherapy
Acute soft tissue injuries requiring Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation, will rehabilitate more readily if the physiotherapist has had the opportunity to stabilise the damaged region and demonstrate and explain the “loose-packed” resting positions
Re-education of gait and other functional activities is important to avoid compensatory movements which lead to dysfunction and re-injury
Early intervention for acute injuries will avoid ongoing injury due to incorrect or inappropriate stretching or exercise
Maintaining correct and specific movement or exercise in the early stages of rehabilitation reduces unnecessary time away from school‚ work‚ sports or other activities
